What is NSFAS?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial assistance to eligible students from poor and working-class families to access higher education and training at public universities and TVET colleges. The bursary application process is administered and managed by NSFAS through a centralized system. Students may lodge their application online.

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen
  • Combined household income not more than R350,000 per year
  • Registered or intend to register at a public TVET college
  • Meet the academic requirements of the course
  • Able to demonstrate potential for academic success

Tuition Fees

Fees vary by programme and level of study. Please contact the finance office for detailed fee structures. Our programmes are affordable, cost effective and provide an alternative to general education and training programmes at schools and other Higher Education institutions.

Programme Types

NCV Programmes

National Certificate Vocational at NQF Levels 2, 3 and 4. Three fundamental subjects and four vocational subjects. Full-time: 1 year per level. Part-time: up to 3 years per level.

When do applications open?

Application open on the 1st of September for the following Academic year.

What are the entry requirements for NCV?

For NCV Level 2, you need: Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 certificate; or NQF Level 1 qualification; or approved bridging programme; or RPL assessment.

What qualifications do you offer?

We offer NCV (8 programmes), and skills courses. Our workshops are well equipped for practical training.

How do I get a National N Diploma?

Business Studies: Complete N6 + 18 months (2000 hours) work experience. Engineering Studies: Complete N6 + 2 years work experience in the same field.

Do I have to repay NSFAS?

No, students are not expected to repay the bursary but must perform well in their studies and progress. If you fail subjects as prescribed, the bursary may be withdrawn.

What campuses do you have?

We have campuses at: Maluti, Mount Fletcher, Mount Frere, Ngqungqushe (Lusikisiki), Siteto (Bizana), and Administration Centre at KwaBhaca.

Can I apply without NSFAS?

Yes, you can register as a private student and pay your own fees. NSFAS funding is optional for eligible students.
